On 19 June 2019 the Equality and Human Rights Commission
published a report into access to legal aid for discrimination cases.
Their support echoes what many legal organisations have been stating
for years: that people are facing “unnecessary barriers of justice and
vulnerable individuals are not being supported to bring discrimination
claims”.
Subjects which the report covers include:
• the “inequality of arms” in discrimination cases;
• the ongoing effects of LASPO;
• the limitations of legal aid and of accessing what little is available;
and
• the Telephone Gateway system.
