NREC appoints new Hate Crimes & Incidents Worker – Jenny Labbon

Jenny will be….
• Supporting individuals who experience discrimination
• Providing advice and assistance to the public and community organisations to identify, challenge and report Hate Crimes & Incidents
• Raising awareness of the right not to experience discrimination
• Networking with Reporting agencies, for example, Police, Local Authority and Education services, to best manage cases

Definition of a Hate Crime

A criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated  by hatred of a personal characteristic or perceived characteristic.

Legislation allows prosecutors to apply for an uplift in sentences for those convicted of Hate Crime

Hate Incident

A Hate Incident is any non-crime, (a criminal offense, which a person cannot be prosecuted), which is perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated by hatred of a personal characteristic or perceived characteristic
