DAVES’S STORY
I was employed in the role of a tradesman. I sustained an injury whilst working for my employer and started a personal injury claim against them. I was off from work for a long period of time, but after seeing their recommended Occupational Doctor I was given recommendations for reasonable adjustments as my injury fell within the definition of a disability. The company would not find me a suitable job that would allow me to return back to work.
I believed that I was being treated less favourably on the basis of my disability.
I approached Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council (NREC) who helped me complete a statement and schedule of losses that was presented to the Respondent during the ACAS early Conciliation process. During this process the matter was settled financially without the need for me to put in my Claim to an Employment Tribunal.
Had I not approached Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council I would have had to deal with this matter with a costly Solicitor, however, I received a four figure settlement from my former employer and a brilliant reference. I am still pursuing the personal injury claim, and I have started a new job.
