New Windrush Advice Project being launched

PRESS RELEASE: For immediate publication
New Windrush Advice Project being launched

Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting new project to support those people from the Caribbean, and other Commonwealth countries, who came to the UK in the 1960s, 70s and 80s who now want to sort out their nationality status and obtain proof that confirms they can stay in the UK.
This initiative  follows the scandal of the Home Office’s  “hostile environment” when many people who came to the UK at this time (the “Windrush generation”) faced being refused public services, or even faced deportation, due to lack of documentary evidence of their legal status in the UK.
This project, which starts officially on June 1st, is financially supported by the Windrush Justice Fund and NREC is also working in partnership with  Central and East Northamptonshire Citizens Advice.
Anyone who wants to seek advice and support to make an application under the government’s Windrush Scheme, and obtain the required documentary proof of their status, can contact NREC by telephone:01604-400808email:info@northamptonshirerec.org.uk or text:07393181482.
The advice and support is totally free and confidential.

An initial appointment/ discussion will be arranged by telephone, WhatsApp or Zoom – when an initial assessment will be made.
