Electing without Prejudice

The general election looming, Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council have joined a new campaign group called Race Equality Matters. The group has released a statement “Electing without Prejudice” calling for politician to act responsibly in the election in respect of race equality.

The campaign has produced a call to action for those

·         putting themselves forward for election

·         seeking to take part in election debates, and

·         public authorities responsible for ensuring that the rights of electors, of candidates and of the public in general are properly fulfilled;

These document were written at the start of the campaign and the group also issued guidance for local authorities which can be seen here.

The guidance gives links to detailed guidance on how local authorities should behave when politicians step over the mark and publish misleading information with the legal arguments behind it.

Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council is a staunch supporter of the campaign and as such has profiled this on our website.
